There have been a number of police impersonation frauds recently aimed at elderly, vulnerable people. The victims receive a phone call from a person claiming to be a police officer who tells them to purchase high-value goods or to go to their bank and withdraw a large amount of cash which will be collected by a police officer from their address at a later stage.
The fraudsters allege that the goods and/or money are counterfeit items. PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THE POLICE WILL NEVER ASK ANYONE TO BUY GOODS OR WITHDRAW MONEY. PLEASE CIRCULATE DETAILS OF THIS SCAM AS WIDELY AS POSSIBLE, PARTICULARLY AMONGST OLDER MEMBERS OF OUR COMMUNITY
