The National Fraud Intelligence Bureau (NFIB) report an increase in fraud reports where criminals are offering a discount on TV service provider subscriptions. Fraudsters are cold-calling victims, purporting to be a TV service provider, offering discount on monthly subscriptions. Victims have been advised that their subscription needs to be renewed or that part or all of their TV equipment needs upgrading. The fraudster will ask the victim to confirm or provide bank account details and may also request identification documents such as passport details. The caller is often female with an Asian accent. Since the beginning of 2018 there have been around 300 reports of this type of fraud.
