Fraudsters have been sending fake TV licence refund e-mails in a bid to steal bank account details. The scam e-mail claims to offer a refund for alleged over-payments of TV licence fees but requests the bank account details of the recipient to ‘update records’ before any refund can be issued. The e-mail also contains a link to a website which appears similar to the official TV Licensing website. You are advised to enter your personal details onto a form which provides the fraudsters with the opportunity to steal your bank account details and potentially your money. TV licensing will NEVER contact you by e-mail about refunds. IF YOU SHOULD RECEIVE SUCH AN E-MAIL PLEASE DON’T OPEN ANY ATTACHMENTS OR CLICK ON ANY LINKS. NEVER PROVIDE ANY PERSONAL OR FINANCIAL DETAILS IN SUCH CIRCUMSTANCES¬†
